Merit Megatouch XL Countertop

History

The Megatouch XL Countertop was released in 1997 as successor or upgrade kit to the Classic Megatouch Countertop.

While the external appearance is equal to the previous generation the internals have been largely upgraded (for the entire XL line), now using a 486 processor instead of the previous Z80.

Other notorious improvements is the introduction of CD-ROMs as the boot media instead of Flash memory chips and later down the line of the XL history, hard disks, greatly improving the upgrade process. Graphics were upgraded to VGA resolution, permitting the use of more realistic photos and it was now possible to link machines locally and through the use of a modem and phone line.
