History
The Megatouch MAXX generation was released in 1999. This generation was based on the Pentium I platform instead of the 486 one of the XL. Merit also created more variations of the countertop cabinet than in the XL. Similarly to the XL Bi-year releases (like the Platinum \ Double Platinum), the MAXX Generation Software Releases also had mid-year updates which fixed some bugs and very rarely introduced new games. The period from 1999 to 2001 saw releases for both the XL and MAXX. The games included in each year release were the same between generations. In 2002, the update to the MAXX generation was released, and there were releases for the XL (Titanium 2), MAXX (Crown) and Force (2002).

Security
Security for the MAXX generation was also based on a Dallas DS1991L Key. As with the previous generations, the key was used for multiple purposes: Preventing piracy, defining which variant of a release to run (and consequently show or hide certain games and features).
